I made a trip to Shpikov (Schpikov), Ukraine last year to visit the village where my father was born. The mayor was very helpful in showing me the Jewish sites and made a request that I attempt to locate a poem written by someone who was born in Shpikov and had settled in Los Angeles. I know that during the 1950′s quite a number of people from Schpikov settled in Los Angeles because I recall that my father attended meetings of the “schpikover” as he called them. Can you give me any suggestions based on your knowledge of the networks in Los Angeles as to whom I might contact that could provide some leads in finding this person or perhaps one of his children as he is probably no longer alive.

I have just discovered the ship manifest for an 11 year old cousin who immigrated in 1916. He traveled (with another 11 year old and the friend’s mother) from Mogilev to Oslo, and then by ship from Oslo to New York. My question is how were they able to leave Russia, and how did they travel from Mogilev to Oslo, in the middle of WWI?

My parents live in LA.
They have lived there for over 40 years.
My mother grew up in Jerusalem.
We would like to find a writer that could interview our mom and write down the story of her life.
We picture a 10 -20 page document that maybe one day we can turn into a small book with pictures.
I am trying to find a writer that specializes in personal family history and preferably lives in LA.
I am turning to you in the hope that someone in your organization can help us.
Thanks very much.

I am looking for a relative last listed as living in LA. I’m searching for my great aunt, Eva Miller. Perhaps a bit of background would help. She was born Eva Melamed in 1891 in Russia. She was born near Minsk, and shtetlach mentioned include Berezino, Zhalino and Pogost. Our name was changed to “Miller” upon arrival in the U.S. I only learned of this relative when I found the obituary for my grandfather (and then Petition for Naturalization for my great grandfather) listing Eva as living in LA at that time (1957). I assume that she married as she is not buried with the other relatives here in Chicago. I know that this is scant information but any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
