Persian Jews have lived in the territories of today’s Iran for over 2,700 years, since the first Jewish diaspora. Today many descendants of these Persian Jews live in Southern California and particularly the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Investigating Persian Jewish ancestry and connecting with the rich history and culture of Persian Jewry will be the subject of the program. Interesting advances in Persian DNA information and the Mizrahi DNA project add science to ancestral analysis.

BIOGRAPHY:
Bob Ourian was born in Tehran, Iran.  In 1985, following the Iranian revolution, he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles.  Now a cosmetic dermatologist practicing in Beverly Hills, he is part of the large Beverly Hills Persian Jewish community.  His interest in genealogy led to volunteering as a curator on Geni.com.  Focusing on Jewish families of Iranian origin, he manages over 18,000 profiles on Geni and contributes to over 50 projects.  He is also one of the administrators of the Persian Jewish DNA Project group on Facebook.  In addition, he works closely with the Avotaynu project in recruiting volunteers for DNA testing for the Mizrahi DNA project.

There will be no physical location so the JGSLA Traveling Library and Mentors Corner will NOT be available for this meeting.
