The name index in this office can be used to see if a particular individual is a property owner in Los Angeles County. This is one way of locating individuals who are not listed in the telephone directory.
The Assessor’s Map Books themselves contain historical information about the assessed value of the property as well as a transaction record showing when the property was sold and to whom. If you need to determine when an individual moved from a certain address, this information can be helpful. This information is kept in the “blue books,” books which trace the assessed value and current property owner each year. To determine which book to look at for a given property, use the indexes described below to identify the Assessor’s Map Book number.
