Finding Aids:

There are both grantor (sellers) and grantee (buyers) indexes. Through 1972, the indexes are separate for grantors and grantees. From 1973 on, the indexes are combined with grantees being identified by an asterisk before the name. There are instructions for searching the indexes and original source records in Room 2207 (1958 – present) and in Room L001 (pre-1958).

Most of the indexes from 1946 on are in microfilm cartridge form. Instructions for use are included on each microfilm reader. Names are indexed alphabetically by year. Indexes before 1946 are actually in register form and are therefore not complete alphabetical indexes. Names were entered by groups of letters (e.g., A- through Al-) chronologically throughout the year.

Before 1922 most of the original records and indexes are in (“dusty”) books in Room L001. Most are sorted by date and volume number. Also in Room L001, you will find microfilm index for 1895-1929 covering both grantor and grantee. It is similar to the post 1973 Index.
